Yes. All eligible schools need to place an order for 2026 regardless of whether they are selecting the same supplier(s) as 2025 or making a change to a new supplier(s). 

If you do not place a new order, your digital access will be cancelled, and you will no longer be able to order top-up resources. 

Yes. Additional teacher resources, and student resources for new enrolments can be ordered online via Down the Back of the Chair during the school year. 

For orders placed via Salesforce through your Education Sector Logon (ESL), we are only able to make changes to your order before it is sent to suppliers. Please contact us ASAP at maths.resources@education.govt.nz if you need to make any changes to your order.  

Schools can use the Salesforce ordering form to change their supplier for one or more learning phases for the 2026 year. If you are thinking about changing suppliers, we strongly recommend reading through the change of Maths resources supplier considerations document. This outlines some key things to consider before making a decision.

If you have already placed your whole-school order for 2026, you are now no longer able to make changes. 

Yes. If you decide to change suppliers for 2026, you will not need to return your 2025 resources. However, in 2026 you will no longer be able to order additional resources (e.g. Student write on workbooks) from this previous supplier and your online licenses for your 2025 supplier(s) will be cancelled.  

You have the flexibility to adjust your student numbers to reflect your 2026 enrolments. We may however contact you if your order significantly exceeds your July 2025 roll return enrolment information.  

We are only able to make changes orders placed via. Down the Back before they are despatched. Please contact us ASAP at maths.resources@education.govt.nz if you need to make any changes to your order. 

All orders placed through Down the Back of the Chair are reviewed & approved by our team to ensure they reflect your current enrolments. We will contact you if we need more information to approve your order. 

Orders from Down the Back of the Chair will be dispatched within five working days. Main centres (Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch) are overnight deliveries. For all other areas there is a 2-3-day delivery timeframe. 

Yes, you can order maths resources from different suppliers for the different phases of learning. The phases of learning are Phase 1: Years 0-3, Phase 2: Years 4-6 and Phase 3: Years 7-8.   

You are, however, unable to order from different suppliers within a phase. E.g. Phase 1: Year 1-2 resources from Supplier A, Year 3 resources from Supplier B.  

We understand that many schools organise their classes this way, and that it means teachers will be working across phases. 

The resource selection is delivered by phases for two reasons; firstly, to align with the new maths curriculum, which is also structured in learning phases, and secondly so that children within a phase have consistency with the resources. Schools are not able to swap resources for a single year level. 

We encourage schools who teach two different phases within one classroom to consider whether they should order from the same resource provider across the two phases to ensure consistency. Schools are welcome to change their supplier selection in 2026 to accommodate this. 

A recommendation for schools that do select different resources for each learning phase, and subsequently use multiple resources within one classroom, is that teachers design one Maths programme for both year groups around the same strands/substrands and then look to both resources for the relevant materials and activities.  

Under the current guidelines for Ministry-funded maths resources, schools can only select one supplier per phase of learning. This means we’re unable to provide resources from one supplier, when a different supplier has been selected as the resource provider for that phase.  

Schools are, of course, welcome to purchase any additional resources directly from suppliers at their own discretion. However, these would not be funded through the structured approaches to Maths implementation and would therefore be at the school’s own cost.  

If this group of learners would benefit from other resources offered by their current supplier’s Ministry-funded Maths offering, these can be ordered at no cost through Down the Back of the Chair. The Ministry's  Maths Resources team can help connect you with your selected supplier to explore how their resource suite may best support learners with additional needs.

We're aware of some errors that exist in the Ministry-funded maths resources which have been delivered to schools. This is common with first-edition textbooks, and to be expected.

Our four Maths resource providers are regularly reviewing their print and digital resources to correct any errors that have been reported and to ensure accuracy.

We have now developed the Error Tracking document below for any identified errors and the corrections.

To inform the Ministry of any identified errors and/or typos please contact the maths resource team at Maths.Resources@education.govt.nz to let us know what the error is and where it can be found.

The providers of the Ministry-funded Maths resources are currently making updates to their suite of print and digital resources. These updates are largely based on teacher feedback, include further curriculum alignment, and are designed to support schools even further with implementing the Mathematics and Statistics Learning Area. The updates will be completed in time for 2026 orders to be delivered.

As of June 2025, funding has been extended to include Y0-Y8 resources for ORS-funded students at secondary schools and their teachers. 

Please note that this funding is for ORS-funded students only and does not extend to secondary students who are working towards curriculum level. 

If your school would like to place an order for resources for your ORS students you can do so by contacting our team at maths.resources@education.govt.nz, who will provide you with the necessary forms to process an order for your school. 

For non-ORS-funded year 9-13 students, schools can purchase resources from suppliers directly, however this will be at the school’s own cost. 

Yes, schools can use any resources they choose; however, the Ministry-funding is for the packages offered by the approved suppliers. Any resources that the school wishes to purchase outside of packages from the endorsed suppliers will need be covered by the school’s own funds.   

No, the Ministry cannot refund schools for resources they have already purchased. If your school is already using resources from one of the approved providers, this is a good opportunity to update what you already have. 

All schools are supplied the resources detailed in each suppliers Ministry-funded offering according to the enrolment numbers they provided in their order. 

Comprehensive information about what is provided from each supplier can be found within the PDFs at the ‘About this resource’ section at the top of this webpage. 

These suppliers also stock other resources that are not Ministry-funded but are able to be purchased at a school’s discretion by contacting the suppliers directly. These additional resources are not funded as part of the structured approaches to Maths implementation so will be at the school’s own cost. 

The Ministry-funded PLD and resources to support the Government education initiatives are for state and state-integrated schools and kura, and do not extend to Home Schooling, Independent Schools and Charter Schools.
