Ordering Ministry-funded maths resources

Yes, ALL schools need to place an order for 2026 regardless of whether they are selecting the same supplier(s) as 2025 or making a change to a new supplier(s).  

For schools who are staying with the same supplier(s), this will ensure annual digital licenses are renewed and new write-in printed workbooks are received (where applicable).  

If you have not placed a first-time order for Ministry-funded maths resources, and you would like to, please email maths.resources@education.govt.nz.  

Additional Ministry-funded maths resources for the 2025 school year (for new enrolments, teachers and resources for support or extension) can be ordered online via Down the Back of the Chair until Friday 05 December, 2025.  

The Maths Resources Team may get in touch if any large orders are placed, to confirm these against your school roll. This is to ensure that we have enough stock for all students to access maths resources. 

Ordering of Ministry-funded maths resources for the 2026 school year will open on Salesforce on 14 July 2025. To place an order for Maths resources you will need to have an ESL login with the role ‘PLD Lead’. The ordering process will be similar to last year, with some changes made to provide more flexibility, and to allow changing suppliers for 2026 if you wish. 

You will be able to order different level resources for the 2026 school year for learners requiring support or extension via Down the Back of the Chair in Term 1 2026, once the school year has commenced and maths attainment levels are clearer. 

Yes. Additional teacher resources, and student resources for new enrolments can be ordered online via Down the Back of the Chair during the school year.  

Down the Back of the Chair is not intended to be used for new orders for the 2026 school year. This will be managed via Salesforce.  Additional resources for support or extension can be ordered via Down the Back of the Chair during Term 1 2026, once the school year has started and maths attainment levels are clearer. 

For orders placed via Salesforce, we are only able to make changes to your order before it is sent to suppliers. Please contact us ASAP at maths.resources@education.govt.nz if you need to make any changes to your order. 

For changes to orders placed via. Down the Back of the Chair, please contact the Bluestar team at orders@thechair.education.govt.nz.  

Schools can change their supplier for one or more learning phases for the 2026 year. If you are thinking about changing suppliers, we strongly recommend reading through the change of maths resources supplier considerations document. This outlines some key things to consider before making a decision. 

 Change of Maths Resource Supplier Considerations 2026

Yes. If you decide to change suppliers for 2026, you will not need to return your 2025 resources, however, in 2026 you will no longer be able to order additional resources (e.g. Student write on workbooks) from this previous supplier and your online licenses for your 2025 supplier(s) will be cancelled.  

The Salesforce order form will display pre-populated March roll return data from your school. The values in the Student Count column can be modified if your student count has changed. This will be used to determine the quantity of resources that will be supplied. 

Please note, if the modified student count exceeds reasonable roll growth you may be contacted by the Maths Resources Team to provide further context.  

We understand that enrolment numbers may continue change, and that you may need to order more resources for 2026 after Salesforce ordering has closed. Additional resources for 2026 can be ordered via. Down the Back of the Chair from Term 1, 2026 . 

If you are not ready to order resources in the first round of ordering (open 14 July – 3 August 2025), you are able to wait and place your order in Round 2 (open 06 October – 26 October 2025). Note that orders placed in Round 1 will be delivered in Term 4, 2025. Orders placed in Round 2 will not be delivered until Term 1, 2026. 

Teacher resources are part of the package from each supplier. See the suppliers’ webpages for details on what they include, which are linked for you at the beginning of this page.  

The Salesforce order form will display an estimated teacher headcount across your school based on schooling workforce data.  

You will need to populate the actual headcount for each year level. Please note, if the modified teacher count exceeds your estimated total head count you may be contacted by the Maths Resources Team to provide further context. 

We understand some teachers may teach composite level classes. In this instance, teacher counts should be based on each year level that the teacher covers to ensure they get all the resources they require. For example, if a teacher has a Y3/4 class they should be counted as both a Y3 and Y4 teacher.  

You will be able to add a note to your order form to inform the Ministry that you have accounted for composite classes which may cause the teacher count to exceed our estimate.   

When ordering your 2026 resources you will have more flexibility to adjust your student numbers to reflect your 2026 enrolments. We may however contact you if your order significantly exceeds your March 2025 roll return enrolment information. 

Schools will receive a separate package for each different Supplier they have selected. If any part of a school’s order can’t be fulfilled, a Maths Resources Team member will be in touch to discuss options.  

The Maths Resources Team will be able to place a manual order on the schools behalf. Please email Maths.Resources@education.govt.nz with details of the order.  

The Ministry-funded PLD and resources to support the Government education initiatives are for state and state-integrated schools and kura, and do not extend to Independent Schools and Charter Schools.

Yes, you can order maths resources from one supplier for all three phases of learning.  

Yes, you can order maths resources from different suppliers for the different phases of learning. The phases of learning are Phase 1: Years 0-3, Phase 2: Years 4-6 and Phase 3: Years 7-8.  

You are, however, unable to order from different suppliers for each year level ie. Year 1 – Supplier A, Year 2 – Supplier B. 

We understand that many schools organise their classes this way, and that it means teachers will be working across phases. 

The resource selection is delivered by phases for two reasons; firstly, to align with the new maths curriculum, which is also structured in learning phases, and secondly so that children within a phase have consistency with the resources. Schools are not able to swap resources for a single year level. 

We encourage schools who teach two different phases within one classroom to consider whether they should order from the same resource provider across the two phases to ensure consistency. Schools are welcome to change their supplier selection in 2026 to accommodate this. 

A recommendation for schools that do select different resources for each learning phase, and subsequently use multiple resources within one classroom, is that teachers design one maths programme for both year groups around the same strands/substrands and then look to both resources for the relevant materials and activities.  

We're aware of some errors that exist in the Ministry-funded maths resources which have been delivered to schools. This is common with first-edition textbooks, and to be expected.

Our four maths resource providers are regularly reviewing their print and digital resources to correct any errors that have been reported and to ensure accuracy.

We have now developed the Error Tracking document below for any identified errors and the corrections.

The providers of the Ministry-funded maths resources are currently making updates to their suite of print and digital resources. These updates are largely based on teacher feedback, include further curriculum alignment, and are designed to support schools even further with implementing the revised maths learning area. The updates will be completed in time for 2026 orders to be delivered.

The Ministry will be following an open procurement process to determine the maths resource suppliers for 2027 and beyond.

Resources selected as part of this procurement will have been written specifically for the delivery of the revised maths learning area and can be used to supplement and support its implementation into NZ schools.

There will be continued funding for Maths Resources until the support is no longer required. 

Yes, ordering will open on Salesforce for three weeks, from 14 July 2025, for delivery in Term 4, 2025. Another ordering window will open on 6 October 2025, for delivery in Term 1, 2026. 

As of June 2025, funding has been extended to include resources for ORS-funded students at secondary schools and their teachers.

Please note that this funding is for ORS-funded students only and does not extend to secondary students who are working below curriculum level.

If your school would like to place an order for resources for your ORS students you can do so by contacting our team at maths.resources@education.govt.nz, who will provide you with the necessary forms to process an order for your school.

For non-ORS-funded year 9-13 students, schools can purchase resources from the suppliers directly, however this will be at the school’s own cost.

Orders will be placed via. Salesforce (online), with each application pre-populated with the school’s roll data for each year group to determine the quantity of resources to be provided.  Schools will select to stay with their 2025 supplier or to change supplier, for each phase of learning, and place their order. The Ministry will pay the cost of supplying the resources directly to the suppliers, based on the school’s confirmed order.     

Yes, schools can use any resources they choose; however, the Ministry-funding is for the packages offered by the approved suppliers. Any resources that the school wishes to purchase outside of packages from the endorsed suppliers will need be covered by the school’s own funds.   

No, the Ministry cannot refund schools for resources they have already purchased. If your school is already using resources from one of the approved providers, this is a good opportunity to update what you already have. 

All schools are supplied resources according to their enrolment numbers.  

Schools will be provided resources that are detailed in each suppliers Ministry-funded offering. These suppliers also stock other resources that are not Ministry-funded but are able to be purchased at a school’s discretion by contacting the suppliers directly. These additional resources will not be funded as part of the structured approaches to maths implementation so will be at the school’s own cost.

We understand that there have been a small number of typos found within some maths resources. Errors like typos are common in first print-runs. If you happen to discover a typo or error within any of the ministry-funded maths resources, please email maths.resources@education.govt.nz with the error and where it can be found. We will then be able to ensure that this is amended in any online resources immediately, as well as in the next print-run of physical resources.

We will provide access to a regularly updated document on Tāhūrangi with typos and corrections for each maths supplier.
